IN PERSON: A Little Content and a Lot of Holiday Cheer
We have not had a meetup since our July event, which was a lot of fun! Traditionally, our December event is “content-free,” but it’s been so long since we’ve had an event that we’re going to do a little bit of content. Mainly, though, we’re going to simply provide an opportunity for our community to gather for some networking and socializing.
Since the last 22 months has played with everyone’s perception of time, our brief topic is going to be time-related. Tim Wilson from Search Discovery is going to show one of the more intriguing pitfalls of applying basic statistical operations like the mean and correlation to time-series data. Then, he’ll demonstrate one (of many) techniques for more safely working with time-series data: using a first-difference estimator. It’s surprisingly intuitive and powerful!
